Like her sister Nikki, Kayla's passion for activism to help prevent suicide stems from the losses she experienced as well has her own personal struggles. She has participated in multiple suicide prevention walks to honor her cousin, among others. These walks helped to enlighten her to the incredible community of survivors and the many inspiring narratives that often go unheard.
In high school, as a D1 Ivy League bound athlete battling an eating disorder and depression, Kayla struggled with the notion that "you need a reason to be depressed." She hopes that Narratives of Hope can give a voice to all types of mental health struggles and that by de-stigmatizing depression, we can help people to realize you may not need a reason to be depressed, but there is always a reason to keep fighting.
